Crafting with a toddler: Salt dough ornaments

For the past few days Brayden and I have been making/painting salt dough ornaments. We made them for our tree as well as Grandparent gifts. They were very easy and fun! This is a great craft for toddlers. Very good for sensory play. You can also make these for Father's Day, Mother's Day, Grandparent's Day, etc. I made paper weights out of two of Brayden's prints. Brayden played with the dough for a while. He had a blast! He also loved print his hand, cutting shapes and etc. Then, of course, he loved painting them. It was a ton of fun!

The recipe we used:
1 1/2 cups of salt
1 1/2 cups of flour
water- enough to where the dough  isn't wet or too dry. We used about 3/4 cup of water. If it get too wet just add a little more salt and flour.

  • Combine the ingredients.
  • Shape them the way you want.
  • Poke a hole with a straw.
  • Bake at 200 degrees F for 3 hours or until the ornaments aren't "squishy" at all.
  • Let cool.
  • Paint. We used kids acrylic paint.
  • Let dry for around 2 hours.
  • String with ribbon or string.
  • Hang up or give as gifts!
REPIN THIS.

We finished painting in the morning. Check out that sweet bed head hair.
A few on our tree. :)

We hope you enjoy the recipe and have fun crafting these ornaments with your kids!
