Friday I took Brayden grocery shopping with me. He asked me for cookies. He picked the "who knew" cookies. They are like good ingredient Oreos. Well, the next day he asked for cookies. I gave him some. A little while later he asks for more. I tell him "two more Brayden". He says "I want five cookies" and holds up five fingers. Brayden has known how to count since he was two. Sometimes he still forgets the order of some of the numbers but he can count. Rj said "just give him three and tell him you gave him five." I said "I'm pretty sure that won't work but I'll try." I said "here's five cookies, baby." He takes the three and runs to his room.
Sure enough, a couple minutes later he runs out into the living room. He says "no, not three cookies!" Rj looked pretty surprised. He asked "how many cookies did we give you?" "Three." I asked "how many did you want?" "Five." Rj asked "how many more do you need?" "Two." We were both pretty baffled. Needless to say we gave that smarty pants his two more cookies. He earned them!
He'll be four August 21st, in case anyone was wondering. We haven't really practiced math with him at all. I am trying to get him to learn to write his name or even letters. Haha. It's a work in progress! He starts preschool August 5th.
